What is Business Networking?

Business networking is a way of marketing your business. There are two main methods of networking to build your business. One is to join a networking group and the other is to develop a networking strategy for yourself. People find that marketing a business by networking is a lower cost method of developing new business than traditional advertising.

There are many professional business networking organizations both in Minnesota and nationally. Local Networking Groups usually meet weekly or monthly and are structured meetings with an agenda that may include a different guest speaker each time for a portion of the meeting. There are many different types of business networking groups that encompass referral groups, community groups, faith-based groups, service groups, industry specific and personal development groups.

Most networking groups charge fees to be a member and if the meeting revolves around a meal or an event you'll need to add that cost as well. Most networking groups only allow one person per profession or industry. Networking organizations have a variety of rules regarding membership, attendance, referrals, structure and accountability.

Whether you are joining a networking group or developing a networking strategy for yourself you'll be meeting face to face with people and developing business relationships. The key is to meet other business professionals and build a mutually beneficial relationship resulting in business opportunities. At most networking events and groups you'll meet people and have the standard business card swap when you shake hands. But that is only the beginning of building a business network. The main goal is to listen and gather information to create and nurture a business relationship.

Business-to-business networking is about building relationships based on trust, and enabling your business to grow.

It's said that on average each person has 250 contacts. Each of those people is an opportunity.

What if you could reach out to those 250 people and gain access to the other 249 people that they know?

If you trust each other, you may be able to do just that.

Just think what it would be like to gain access to over 60,000 possible clients...
