How to Find a Job through Networking
With hundreds of applications being submitted for each new job opening available wouldn't it be nice to get a job before it was even advertised? Experts estimate that most of the job openings in a company get filled before they get advertised. Usually these job positions are filled by word of mouth networking or being a friend of a friend.
Business networking is developing a list of contacts of people whom you've met through business and social events. Why not leverage networking to gain valuable information on job leads, advice and information about different companies who may have job openings. Cultivating relationships through networking is how entrepreneurs, consultants and small business get new business; use your networking skills to find a job like they do. More people find job openings through personal contact that any other way.
Looking for a Job Through Networking
The first place to start job networking is with the current list of people you know. Call all of your business contacts with a keep in touch call. Ask them how they have been and how is their business. After your inquiry about them let them know that you are back on the market and describe briefly what type of position you are looking for. Don't be afraid to ask for help, ask if they know anyone that you should contact that may be interested in your skills. Find out if they know of any networking events, job fairs or other places or people that may help.
Now that you have exhausted the list of people you know you'll want to find some new opportunities in your quest to find a job. Depending on what type of position you are looking for you can attend events and networking groups that may be a better fit for you. There are many networking opportunities that are close to where you live or where you want to work.
How to Find Networking Events and Networking Groups
The biggest local resource for networking groups and events in your community is when you open your local newspaper to the calendar section. Other places where you can check for networking events are The Business Journal, trade publications, your local library and Chamber of Commerce.

Business-to-business networking is about building relationships based on trust, and enabling your business to grow.
It's said that on average each person has 250 contacts. Each of those people is an opportunity.
What if you could reach out to those 250 people and gain access to the other 249 people that they know? If you trust each other, you may be able to do just that.
Just think what it would be like to gain access to over 60,000 possible clients...
